Project Spotlight: Teen Feed Website

With a pending name change and rebrand on the horizon, University Street Ministry knew the time was right to partner with BHV Design Lab to design and develop a new website. The nonprofit organization began in 1986 when nurses from University of Washington noticed that homeless youth were entering the emergency room severely malnourished. What began as one night of food for hungry youth blossomed into seven nights of healthy dinners, every week of the year. They added Support Coordination and Street Outreach to help homeless youth find their path away from street. Recognizing this new found phenomenon as an opportunity to draw even more visitors to the area, Washington State Tourism got to work launching a “Twilight in Washington” feature web page with details of the area and tips on where to see the sights. They turned to BHV Design Lab to design a road trip map, available free for download from their official experiencewa.com site. Read the rest of this entry »

Tips from the Lab: Licensing Stock Photography

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but what should you expect to pay for it? It all depends.

If you need a highly specific image (or group of images) that is 100% unique to your brand, a professional photoshoot is the answer. But if you’re willing to make a few consolations, you can save considerably by using a stock photography agency. These comprehensive image libraries contain millions of affordable photos that are submitted by photographers and classified into two categories: Royalty-free and rights-managed.
